Ordinary people can barely graps the concept of communing with the spiritual world. However, adepts are intimidately familiar and able to mediate between the human and the spiritual world by reciting the names of Veraist sacred guardians, burning incense, making ritual offerings, or reading holy texts aloud. Just like there are good and bad people, there are good and bad spirits. Adepts need to be careful not to offend them or abuse the insight bestowed upon them.

Supernatural powers are either hereditary or obtained through devotion. Hereditary magicians are often witch-doctors or medicine-men who receive their supernatural knowledge from a family member or successor. Sometimes this knowledge is inherited from a spirit directly. This type of knowledge cannot be read or memorized, but has to be inherited. Once acquired, they are forbidden to share it. Another way to acquire supernatural insight is through devotion, which usually evolves asceticism, meditation and trances while reciting mantras. Anyone can acquire supernatural powers this way, but it usually takes a very long time.

Of course, there are short-cuts to acquiring supernatural powers. An adept can enlist the aid of a demon or evil spirit in hopes of gaining knowledge through personal sacrifice. While the practice of sorcery isn't considered evil in itself, when used for personal gain or to harm others, it is usually bad. Kulam and other forms of witchcraft are highly stigmatized in Suwarnabumi society, especially in the established religions of Nagaism and Thalathanism.

To avoid being labelled as sorcerers, some adepts will use the disguise of religion to gain legitimacy within his community, even if they aren't religious at all.

Elemental Powers

There are five elements: Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water. Add Metal Shaping and Plant Shaping to the list of possible prerequisites for the following powers:

  • Elemental Aura
  • Elemental Blast
  • Elemental Resistance
  • Elemental Weapon
