Gwaru was one of the four original characters that awoke in the abandoned temple in eastern Palalangan. He quickly befriended another Tiyanak, named Kyra. Gwaru saved Kyra's life at least on one occasion. When they left the temple, Gwaru soon realized that he excelled at archery.

Upon entering the Kaliyatra-occupied Legaia, he reluctantly turned over his bow at the gates, but registered under a false name. When Pharizad threatened an official of the Kaliyatra, Gwaru unwittingly led them to the public house they were staying at.

Gwaru recently learnt from the heavenly demon called Murkha that he is supposed to wield a powerful artefact known as the Dawnbow. This heavenly weapon has the power to eradicate entire armies, but at a great spiritual cost: the bow consumes the wielder's soul. He has been instructed by Murkha to kill the Kaliyatra Commissar, a mission he has not yet undertaken.

During the final stages of the Battle of Ayahsiras, Gwaru was killed by the Kaliyatra Commissar.
