The playful binturongs, also called bearcats, live primarily in the Suwaranbumi region, particularly on Panau and the Nau Islands. Some rainforest people even keep these animals as pets. It lives in the forest canopy, sleeping on branches during the day and look for food during the night. It eats primarily fruit, but eggs, leaves and small animals, such as rodents and birds are also on its menu. A binturong has coarse and thick black fur, small and round ears, sharp claws and a bushy, fully fully prehensile tail that functions like an extra hand. It uses both its tail and claws to cling and leap from branch to branch like a monkey. A binturong weighs about 30 pounds and is roughly as big as a small dog, but with a tail as long as its body. Female binturongs tend to be larger than the male binturongs. Binturongs live in small family groups, one male, one female and their children.
